Amy's Ride 2009 - Ride with your heroes while supporting road safety for cyclists.
Support the Amy Gillett Foundation road safety initiatives by joining in the Amy’s Ride on January 4th 2009. Starting in Geelong and taking in the beautiful scenery of the Bellarine Peninsular the event has ride options of 120km, 65km, 22km and a 1km kids loop so there are rides for all the family. Not only will you support a great cause but you will have a the chance to ride with champions like Cadel Evans and Phil Anderson plus all the teams from the Bay Classic, 100 of Australia’s best cyclists all riding with you.
Money raised from the ride goes to supporting the Amy Gillett Foundation’s programs to reduce the incidence of death and injury between motorists and cyclists. These initiatives including teaching learner drivers about motorist – cyclist safety, educating children and parents on purchasing correctly fitting bikes, helmets and accessories, standardising bicycle training Australia wide and a range of education and research programs to increase motorist and cyclist awareness and respect.

What has Crohn's disease and the Tour de France got in common?
The answer is Damien Watson. I met Damien today at Cyclismo and what he plans to do is ride the TDF 2009 course in full. He'll do it day for day, stage for stage, finishing stage 21 just before the pros start. He's been able to rope in his best friend, his folks and his girlfriend for support. Why? To raise awareness for Crohn's disease which both Damien and his dad suffer. Damien's after 10,000 people on his e-news subscription.
So to learn more and perhaps subscribe to the e-news please go to www.thecrusaders.com.au.

Update
Well, it's been a big month culminating with the colour and energy of Stage 6 of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour in Lygon St last Saturday. It was terrific to meet and greet lots of people who appreciate the maps and get a lot out of them. Thanks to all those who dropped in to my display during the week just to say hello.
Some big races and rides coming up with the Melbourne to Warrnambool (Caribou) tomorrow, Lake Hume Challenge (Bethanga Rotary), Kelly Country Classic (Northeast Health and Wangaratta BUG) followed by the Mornington Teams (Bikevents), Cyclismo (TL Sports), Great Doherty Tour (Blackburn), Tour of Bright (Alpine), Scotty's weekend at Shepparton (Shepparton and CycloSportif) with lots of people getting set for the Open Road Championships at Buninyong (Caribou) and the Alpine Classic in January (Audax). And don't forget the Great Vic Bike Ride (Bicycle Victoria) Ballarat to Grampians and back at the end of November. Whether you are racing or riding, there are plenty of great events to enjoy.
So I'm back in the office and ready to pump out a few more profiles. If you have an event coming up (organising or riding in) then drop me a line with the details steve@cyclingprofiles.com.au
