Help Us Promote Cycling!

Promoting the benefits of cycling is vital in encouraging more people to actively participate in cycling and enjoy the multiple benefits of cycling. Promotion has to happen at a range of levels, the individual, the business sector, the community and the government.

Examples of Cycling Promotion

'Cycle Instead' is an excellent campaign undertaken by the Western Australian government that has been using a health promotion framework to promote the benefits of cycling and encourage people to get on their bikes.

Cycling Promotion Media Kit

Positive media coverage of cycling is vital in lifting the profile of cycling as a fun, healthy and popular activity be it for recreation, sport or getting around.  The Cycling Promotion Fund has engaged a journalist to develop a media kit for cycling organisations to assist them to gain positive media coverage of cycling.

Fact Sheet for Bicycle Retailers with tips on how to get cycling in the media.

CPF Sample Adverts

The Cycling Promotion Fund has developed a number of creative adverts and cycling tips which have been used to promote and encourage cycling in a range of relevant magazines and newspapers. Cycling organisations and bicycle retailers are free to utilise those adverts and or to adapt them. Please contact us to discuss your needs and our graphic artists can adapt them for you.

Ride A Bike Web banner 

We have developed  a number of web banners for the Ride a Bike Website designed as animated gifs. Any organisation or business wanting to promote cycling is welcome to include a web banner on their web site. 

The banners are available to download by simply clicking on the Descriptions at the link below, you can save the images or by using the direct url link to use on your website.

Cycling Promotion Publications

The Fund has also developed a range of publications (see below) which promote cycling and enable people interested in taking up cycling to make informed decisions about products which will assist them to get the greatest enjoyment out of their bicycles These publications are free and are available by download from this site or by ordering them contacting the Cycling Promotion Fund.

Cycling > Moving Australia Forward

On 9 August 2007, the Cycling Promotion Fund's newest publication was launched at Parliament House, Canberra, by the Minister for Health and Ageing, The Hon Tony Abbott MP and the Shadow Minister for Local Government and Health Promotion, Senator Kate Lundy.

Posters

These posters aim to broaden the image of cycling and can be displayed at bicycle retailers, community, health and information centres and at events promoting the benefits of cycling. Click the links below to see a PDF review of these posters.

Pamphlets

  • Bicycling accessories: The right accessories will enhance your bicycle and will improve the quality, safety and enjoyment of your riding experience
  • Basic Bicycle Maintenance:  Some tips to look after your bicycle. A bicycle that is well maintained not only works better, it is safer, more reliable and more enjoyable to ride.
  • Cycling for the young at heart:  Cycling is for all ages! This pamphlet provides tips for people who are young at heart and everyone who is interested in taking up cycling.
  • What women Want:  A guide for women to finding a bike shop that is right for them
  • Bike Lights:  A guide to choosing lights to see and be seen

Issue Sheets

The Cycling Promotion Fund together with the Bicycle Federation of Australia, Sydney South West Area Health Service and other professionals have developed a series of cycling issue sheets to raise awareness of cycling and its benefits and debunk some commonly held beliefs.

We encourage all cycling organisations, businesses and government departments and anyone interested in advancing cycling to utilise these cycling issue sheets, as they provide some valuable statistics and arguments.

  • Commuting by bicycle:  Riding to work or school is a great way to integrate excercise into your daily life and reduce the hassle of parking and time tables. Here you can find some tips on how to get started.
  • Children and cycling:  Wanting to provide your children with a  great start to an active and healthy lifestyle? Here you find a tips on how to select ba bike, trailer or tag a long.
  • Buying a second hand bike:  Considering purchasing a second hand bike? This fact sheet provides you with some tips on what to look for to avoid the pitfalls of second hand bikes.
  • Bicycle Patrols in Emergency Services:  Bike patrol services are used around the world and provide effective, versatile, high profile, high visible and rapid response capability for protective and emergency services. This fact sheet provides an overview of the use of bicycle patrols in Australia and their benefits.
