The Victorian Government has recognised that integrating bicycles with public transport is an integral part of an integrated transport system and has listened to feedback from bicycle riders who use the system.

Pat Farmer's proposal for bicycle registration is well meaning but risks raising yet another barrier to increasing the health and activity levels of Australians.
A recent study commissioned by Mediabank Privat identified the cost of physical inactivity to the federal health budget at $1.49 billion each year and Governments are struggling to encourage more people to become physical active. |

The Sustainable Living Festival
is on again in Melbourne from the 15th, 16th & 17th of
February at Federation Square in Melbourne. The festival is the biggest
free event in Australia which offers information, tips and incentives
for people to reduce their ecological footprint.
Given cycling is one of the most sustainable forms of transport and
recreation, the Cycling Promotion Fund will again have a stand
promoting cycling and providing tips for people on how to replace
some of their current car trips by bicycle. |

The Mayor for London is committed to tackle climate change by implementing a Climate Action Plan.
The plan recognises the important role walking and cycling can play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increases funding for cycling and walking close to fivefold - from 13 million pounds a year to 62 million pounds in 2008/9. |

DfT announces record £140m Government investment in
cycling
The cash injection - boosting the importance of Cycling England - was
announced earlier today by transport secretary Ruth Kelly.
Cycling England has asked for £250m. Cycling England's previous budget was £10m per annum. The £140m is split over three years. |

Australian cycling sector delivers $200m Budget proposal to Treasury

submitted a $200 million bicycle infrastructure proposal known as the Healthy and Active Transport (HEAT) initative.

NRMA claims that cycle paths are a waste of money show the motoring group to be out of touch with the realities of city livability, transport planning and even other motoring organisations.
"Cities around the world are rediscovering the benefits of cycling. Soaring world oil prices, the urgent need to combat climate change and crippling traffic congestion have all converged to cause a surge of interest in boosting bicycle use" said Elliot Fishman, Policy Advisor at the Cycling Promotion Fund. |
