The Cycling Promotion Fund and the Bicycle Federation of Australia on behalf of the Cycling Promotion Alliance are supporting a campaign to gain greater Federal Government investment into cycling and walking infrastructure to enable Local Government to implement projects which make a real difference.

The Wollondilly Shire Council NSW has put forward a motion at the National General Assembly to request the Federal Government to provide $50million p.a. for four years to fund significant eligible Local Government projects for the provision of cycling and walking infrastructure.

This motion has been accepted at the National General Assembly.

We are currently working to ensure that ALGA includes it as a ALGA policy. We are keen to be working with ALGA to gain support from the Federal Government for this program which will enable Local Government to fast track the implemention of their cycling strategies.

We urge supporters of cycling to let the mayor of their council know about the proposed program and encourage them to let the Australian Local Government Association Board know that their council supports this initative.

We encourage cycling supporters and councils to submit projects which are ready to go and could be funded under this program. Let us know if you have such a project and we can provide you with a template to submit it to us so it can be used to demonstrate to decision makers that there many valueable projects which could make a real difference at the local level.
