Funding for Ride 2 School

It is great to see that the Victorian Government has recognised that investing in encouraging more kids riding to school is an effective strategy to address childhood obesity as well reducing congestion around schools.

The $4million Ride2School program is an integral part of the Government's Go for your life strategy and will provide funding for bike parking, boost bike education at schools and give students a chance to receive one of 4,000 new bikes as a reward for completing a series of riding challenges and riding to school.

The program will also include training for 150 volunteeres statewide to deliver safe riding skills. Bicycle Victoria will manage the community program which aims to be delivered to 450 schools across Victoria. The program is supportred by the State Government through the Departments of Human Services, Education and Training, Victorian Communities, Community Support Fund and Sustainability Victoria together with VicHealth, Diabetes Australia and VicRoads. This highlights the importance of cooperation and collaboration across portfolios.
