Finding a balance between the need of motorists and cyclists

The Victorian Government's announcement on new regulations and penalties for cyclists that break road rules has generated lots of heated discussion. Sadly lots of it is not constructive and just generates an us and them argument.

Rob Moodie's article (The Age 7/03/08) is a terrific take on this issue and should be essential reading to policy makers, journalists, radio hosts and decision makers. 

 

We do have a battle out there on our roads which does not cope with the population growth and the growth in motorised traffic. The solution is not in blaming but in significant public policy change which makes it easier for people to choose alternatives to the car.
