An Australian first for bicycle parking

Saturday November 18th saw the official opening on Beach Road at Black Rock of the first "bicycles only" on-road parking space. This is an Australian first, and probably a world first.

The bicycle parking facilities were opened by John Kennedy , world professional 200m track record holder, 3 times UCI world masters track cycling gold medalist  (2007) and proprietor of Kennedy Cyclefit, and Kevin Andrews, Federal Member for Menzies and Minister for Immigration and Citizenship.

This Bike Parking Rack holds 50 bikes in the space of two car spaces. It is removed through the week and replaced on weekends when riders are out in numbers far more prevalent than cars on Beach Road from 6am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday. Practical and sensible and it clears the footpaths and makes bike parking safer and allows security for every bike.
