Getting started in mountain biking is simple. Hire or purchase a mountain bike and get some tips on great places to ride for beginners and go and have a go.  Riding competently off-road is a skill which develops through experience and practice. The very best riders can perform amazing miracles, but most cyclists can master the basics and enjoy the challenge of riding away from roads.

One of the best ways to learn off-road skills is by watching other riders. Riding in a group also has added safety benefits and it makes sense to join a local Mountain Bike club as they can give you great tips and kow the best places to ride. Mountain biking puts you closely in touch with nature and the landscape and every ride has the potential to become a mini adventure.

  • Ride on open trails only
  • Always give way
  • In all situation, control you bike
  • Leave no trade, plan ahead and tell others where you are going.

Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) is the body for mountain biking throughout Australia and is run by mountain bikers for mountain bikers. They offer a range of memberships including competition, social and supporter membership and they can get you in touch with a local Mountain Bike Club.
