Funding Opportunities

Financial resources are vital in creating cycle friendly communities and in encouraging and promotion cycling. Increasingly, governments at all levels are beginning to appreciate the significant health, environmental, economic and social benefits of cycling. This recognition has opened the way for new funding opportunities for cycling projects.

In the past the Cycling Promotion Fund has funded a number of innovative projects that promote and encourage cycling to assist in developing the evidence base that such projects are effective in encouraging and promoting cycling. Since our establishment, Government investment into cycling infrastructure and encouragement programs has been increasing and the evidence base of the cost effectiveness of infrastructure and encouragement programs is becoming stronger.

At  a recent strategic review of the Cycling Promotion Fund's strategies and priorities was held to ensure that our resources are invested in a way that achieves the best possible outcomes for cycling.

The review resulted in a change of our priorities including increased investment in our national effort to gain greater Commonwealth support for cycling infrastructure and encouragement programs.

As a consequence, our grants programs has been terminated for the time being.

We regret this decision as we are aware that there are some terrific programs that can make a real difference in encouraging and promoting cycling. Strengthening our role in making the case for greater Commonwealth support for cycling will ultimately mean that such programs will be seen as cost effective and popular government investment in creating sustainable, healthy and active communities.

We will continue to assist your ideas and programs through

  • Listing potential funding sources for cycling encouragement and promotion programs
  • Continue to provide advice and guidance on the development of effective cycling programs and initiatives
  • Write letters of support for funding applications
  • Provide resources and publications for supporting evidence for cycling initiatives
