Brisbane City Council
Brisbane City Council is one of the leading councils in Australia in promoting and encouraging cycling. They were joint winners of the Bicycling Achievement for Local Government in 2003 for their commitment to build infrastructure, finding innovative solutions to reduce conflict between motorists and bicycle riders, promotion and encouragement of cycling as transport and recreation and the development of a bicycle pool for staff.
Brisbane saw the implementation of Australia's first bicycle racks in front of buses and the provision of bicycle maps to encourage more residents to utilise the facilities available. Brisbane has currently 520 kilometres of dedicated bikeways which are ideal for commuting or exploring the city.
