New GM for Cycling Promotion Fund |

Bicycle Industries Australia and the Cycling Promotion Fund today announced the appointment
of Peter Bourke as its new General Manager who will oversee the industry in a time of booming
interest in cycling.
Peter Bourke comes well qualified with experience in sports management, community
development and public health gained in Australia and overseas, most recently for a large local
government in regional Victoria. He is also a keen triathlete and rides a bike regularly.
BIA Chairman, Noel McFarlane, expressed his satisfaction at recruiting Mr Bourke to the position.
‘Our offer to Peter came after a highly competitive recruitment process with a large number of extremely competent and well-qualified applicants’ he said.
Peter Bourke takes the helm of an organisation with a national reputation for research, representation of the industry to government and promotion of cycling built up over nearly a decade.
‘The cycling industry is in a position to design its own destiny and I am excited to be in a position to help create the direction,’ he said.
‘Coming from a Government role which included local transport, I bring real knowledge about the requirements of transport, local communities and the need to ensure Governments are aware of the benefits of getting more people riding bikes will bring’.
He assumes his new role of General Manager of the Cycling Promotion Fund and Bicycle Industries Australia full time on 6th April.

- The Cycling Promotion Fund is an initiative of Bicycle Industries Australia and was established in 2000.
- The CPF is funded by membership contributions from bicycle industry companies.
- The CPF’s objectives include: making it easier for people to cycle, promoting and encouraging initiatives which achieve measurable increases in cycling participation and promoting best practice.
- The Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards annually recognise, reward and encourage innovation and achievements and promote best practice. This year in June the National Awards will be held in Canberra.
- The Australian bicycle industry is worth approximately $1 billion and employs an estimated 6,000 people.
