Nominations now open for the 2009 Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards

The Cycling Promotion Fund is calling for nominations to the Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards. This will be the 8th year these highly recognised National Awards will be conducted.

The Cycling Promotion Fund is delighted to announce the National Heart Foundation of Australia as principal partner for the Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards.

The support from the Heart Foundation, which is such a respected national cardiovascular health and research organisation, is an enormous boost in the current challenging economic environment for the Awards and comes at a time of increasing concern about rising obesity and falling levels of physical activity among our school children and Australian families.

The Awards ceremony will held in Canberra during 2010 and is usually attended by Award winners, Members of Parliament and stakeholders from around the country.

Making Australia more bicycle friendly requires action, commitment, innovation, vision and persistence. Without the work of dedicated individuals and organisations, many of the facilities and initiatives we take for granted today would not be there.

Maybe you know of a hard-working person in your area, a cycling group, local school, bicycle shop, bicycle-friendly business, local council or shire, councillor, politician or an organisation that deserves recognition from the cycling community?

The Cycling Promotion Fund believes that recognising innovation and commitment is vital in maintaining momentum and sustaining action around Australia. To achieve this we established the Bicycling Achievement Awards in 2002.

Since their inception of the Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards, the range and quality of nominations has increased considerably illustrating the excellent work happening around Australia in shaping the future of bicycling.

All nominees will be included in a booklet that is distributed far and wide. Winners in each category will also receive a trophy. The deadline for nominations will be announced soon.

Nomination forms are available on the Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards website:
