$40 million investment for cycling infrastructure |
|
The Australian Government and the Greens have agreed to amendments to the $42 billion economic stimulus package, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said today.
"We have improved this package to create thousands of green jobs in communities across Australia", Senator Brown said. "These involve approximately half a billion dollars and will create thousands of local green jobs and provide greater assistance to unemployed and low-income Australians."
The CPF is delighted that one of the amendments the Greens successfully negotiated was a $40 million fund for bikeways, creating between 500 and 700 local jobs, reducing traffic congestion and providing healthy transport options.
Assuming the successful passage of the stimulus package through Parliament this is great news for the cycling sector. The Cycling Promotion Fund will continue its work to encourage investment in cycling.
