Cycling: A solution to the nation's biggest challenges sits in our garage |

The Cycling Promotion Fund presented a paper at the Australian Transport Research Forum in Queensland on the untapped potential of the bicycle to help solve some of the nation's most pressing challenges.
The report, Barriers, facilitators and interventions to get more Australians physically active through cycling found that cycling is booming in Australian cities and already provides signficiant benefits in terms of cuts to greenhouse gas emission, congestion, petrol costs and lifestyle diseases such as diabetes.
Economic Benefits from current level of cycling
- Over $150 million cut from health care costs each year

Over $35 million saved in petrol costs

Cutting traffic congestion by at least $63.9 million per year

$9.3 million saved in transport externalities such as greenhouse gas abatement
