Cadel's Tour de France Success |
|
The second place by Cadel Evans in the world's greatest cycling event, the Tour de France marks a massive achievement by Australia's top road cyclist and highlights the potential benefits of cycling for all Australians.
"Cadel's success comes at a time when Australia's cycling participation has undergone very strong growth in recent years. Cycling is clearly booming in Australia and brings a wide range of benefits in key areas: Reduced fuel costs, fighting climate change and cutting urban congestion and obesity" said Elliot Fishman, Policy Advisor with the Cycling Promotion Fund.
However, in order to maximise the potential benefits offered by cycling
some key barriers need to be overcome. These include lack of bicycle
lanes and paths, safety concerns and information and training to bring
more Australians back to cycling following years of inactivity.
