Brisbane City Council: Public Bicycle Hire Scheme is becoming a reality

Brisbane City Council is set to become the first Australian capital city to join several European centres in introducing a public bike hire scheme. The City Council is seeking expression of interest to implement the system.

The aim is to have a bike station every 300m in the inner parts of Brisbane with 2,000 bikes and 150 stations at the initial stage of the development.

According the Lord Mayor Newman, the initative is a mechanism to reduce the need for vehicle trips in the inner-city and is part of the Brisbane's vision to become the most sustainable city in Australia.

Congratulations to Brisbane City council for being the leader in Australia in implementing such a program.
