Every five years the Census asks Australians how they travel to work. On Census day 2006, a dramatic rise in the number of people riding a bicycle to work was recorded.

The desire to lead healthier lifestyles, concern over climate change, crippling traffic congestion and record high fuel prices have all contributed to the strong growth in cycling.
