Getting Started

I have not been on a bike for over 40 years. I have recently purchased a hybrid bike for recreational use and want to know what things I need to consider before getting back on a bike

Congratulations on trying to get back into cycling. Start slowly! Choose a route which is flat and smooth, a shared off road path is a great way to start. Ride slowly for the first 10 minutes, gradually increasing your speed as you finish your warm up.

As a beginner, cycle for 20 minutes and aim to cover about 5km. Slowly increase your distance and speed over time. For more information on how to get started download our Bike Riding Pamphlet.
