Traffic Concerns: Cycling to School

I would like to ride with my children to school but I am concerned about the traffic generated by other parents driving their kids to school

Congratulations on thinking about riding with your kids to school. You will give them a great start in the morning and they will be more alert once at school. Remember riding by bike you most likely will choose a different route than driving and you can ride on the more quite back roads. As a parent with children under 12 years of age you are allowed to ride on the footpath.

Riding with your children not only gives them great exercise but it also teaches them valuable road safety skills and improves their confidence making them safer road users once they are independent travellers.

Cycling Resource Centre
The Cycling Resource Centre is a on-line resource for cycling information.
This world class site developed by Austroads and Department for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government features a powerful search engine, topical pages ranging from infrastructure and funding to ride to school programs, road safety and cycling promotion.

Teacher Resources: Bikes are Brilliant
The Cycling Promotion Fund sponsored the development and publishing of a teacher's toolkit resource to integrate bicycles into the curriculum. The teachers toolkit magazine is distributed to all schools around Australia and a website is available for teachers to download lesson plans and tips and ideas.
