Bicycles extended their sales lead over cars in 2006, with Australian bicycle sales hitting a new record of almost 1.3 million while car sales declined from the previous year.

Bicycle sales topped one million for the fifth year in a row. In 2006, 32 per cent more bicycles were sold than motor vehicles.
