There are a range of organised cycling trips available, from camping holidays with small groups to cycling with thousands of other riders or more luxury fully supported rides staying in hotels.

Cycling as part of your holiday
Many holiday destinations now offer excellent cycling trails for day trips. You can take your bicycle with you or hire a bicycle at your destination.
Weekend Trip
There are many wonderful trails which are easy accessible from major capital cities making a weekend cycling tour feasible.
City cycling
Cycling is one of the best ways to explore a city. Most towns and cities around Australia provide a bicycle hire service where you can also get tips and maps on the best route to take. Alternativly there are also organised cycling tours available to assist you in exploring the city and to find those hidden treasures which you never see travelling by car.
Preparation depends very much on the type of cycling holiday you are planning
Regardless of the type of cycling holiday you will undertake, there are a number of items which you should not leave without.
Bicycle
Ensure that your bicycle had a service before taking it on a holiday. Let your bike shop know what kind of riding your planning to do and they are happy to assist you in preparing your bike for the trip. If you are planning to hire a bicycle, ask the hire place to set up the bicycle for you, so you are comfortable and safe. You may want to pack your saddle, cycling shoes and pedals to increase your comfort.
Bicycle Gear
If you are planning to use the bicycle as your major form of transport, you will need to invest in some additional gear such as a set of good panniers, rack, front and back lights, spare tyres and tubes, tools, tyre levels, puncture repair kits, spare spokes, chain lub, water botttles and cages. Talk to other touring cyclists and they will be able to give you tips on how to pack light but at the same time have all the essential things required.
Clothing
Depending on the climate and the riding you are planning to do. Knicks, cycling gloves, jersey, rain jacket, sleeveless wind jacket are some of the basic things to pack. Don't forget a good pair of sun glasses and a good quality light weight helmet.
