Cycling on trails provides a wonderful opportunity to travel through scenic countryside without the stresses of riding along roads with traffic

Most of Australia's trails are multiple use trails and are shared by walkers, joggers, skaters, horses and bicycles. There are a number of books and magazines which provide an overview of the most popular trails, be it in the city, urban areas or in regional Australia. Alternativly your state cycling organisation can provide you with information and tips on exploring some of the most popular trails in your region.

Most trails are managed by Park Authorities in your state who also can provide you with information on trails which are accessible by bike. These states have developed some great websites with information on cycling trails in their state. Click on the state for more information.

Channel 9's Postcards program recently featured a special program on popular cycling trails in Victoria.

Why not purchase Australia's Where to Ride Magazine at your local newsagent and plan your next trip, be it for a few hours, a day, a weekend or a holiday. The magazine includes over 1,000 cycling destinations.

Rail Trails offer the ultimate leisure ride on paths recycled from abandoned railway corridors. Their most popular features are gentle grades, no traffic other than bikes, pedestrians, and sometimes horses, and great scenery.  Rail trails often meander past bakeries, pubs and B&Bs nearby and are great for a weekend away. They can also be useful commuter routes in urban areas or between country towns.
