BMX is short for Bicycle Motocross
BMX originated in the state of
California in the United States in the late 1960's when teenagers
started to imitate their motocross heroes on their basic bicycles. In the 1970's the sport achieved critical mass and manufacturers began
creating bicycles designed for the sport.
Today BMX is a worldwide
movement with many of today's top road and track riders having started
on BMX bikes. BMX will make it's first appearance as an Olympic sport
at Beijing 2008. BMX is a great sport for the young and the young at heart, racing on
sandy and hilly tracks as well as performing incredible tricks on flat
ground, wooden ramps or obstacles.
