This year’s Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards will be presented in Canberra today at an event to be opened by Heart Foundation CEO (ACT) Tony Stubbs and with the key note address from Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Maxine McKew.
“2009 has been a landmark year for cycling, with this year’s commitments to fund bicycle infrastructure blowing away previous investments by all three levels of government,” said Stephen Hodge, spokesperson for the Cycling Promotion Fund.

NSW nominations have taken the lion’s share of the prizes in this year’s Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards that will be presented in Canberra today at an event to be opened by Heart Foundation CEO (ACT) Tony Stubbs and with the key note address from Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Maxine McKew.

The Bowden Brompton Community School in Adelaide will today receive the national Award for an Educational Institution for Innovation in Encouraging Cycling to School for its program that has resulted in 40% of students regularly riding to school.
The presentation will be made in Canberra at this year’s Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards to be opened by Heart Foundation CEO (ACT) Tony Stubbs and with the key note address from Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and
Local Government, Maxine McKew.
“Bowden Brompton Community School provides an educational option for
students who have been disengaged from mainstream schooling for varied
and often complex reasons such as significant trauma in their lives,”
said Stephen Hodge, spokesperson for the Cycling Promotion
Fund.

Tasmanian Greens Senator Christine Milne, gains an Honourable Mention in the Award for Contribution by a Politician for successfully negotiating the $40 million National Bike Paths Fund during negotiations for the federal stimulus package, the largest ever direct federal investment in cycling.

The Brunswick Cycling Club will today receive an Honourable Mention in the Award for Special Achievement by a Bicycle Organisation for a junior cycling clinic that started more than 50 years ago.
The Novice Junior Clinic was established by the late Henry Hill around 1948 and more than 50 years later the clinic continues to provide children with bike education and bike handling skills in a fun, safe environment.

The Munda Biddi Trail Foundation will today receive the national
Award for Bicycle Friendly Business for an iconic tourist trail set be
the longest of its kind anywhere the world at more than 1000 kilometres.
The presentation will be made in Canberra at this year’s
Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards presided over by the
Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional
Development and Local Government, Maxine McKew.
“The Munda Biddi Trail Foundation has been able to create what
is sure to become a national icon in active tourism and regional
economic development by working with 32 key stakeholders including
everyone from local community groups and councils, to state government
departments and sporting groups,” said Stephen Hodge, spokesperson for the Cycling Promotion Fund.

Commuter Challenge is a positive initiative by
Bicycle NSW to encourage and reward individuals to cycle all or part of the
journey to work. It is also designed to encourage cycling outside of the workplace
- for transport, fitness and recreation. If you would like to participate, simply register online
