2010 has continued a decade of dominance with bicycles outselling cars each year for the past decade by over 2,000,000. Over 11.5million bikes were sold in that time.
Selling over 1.3million bikes in 2010, the Australian bicycle industry is now showing clear signs of returning to its record levels of 2007. These figures represent a 12% increase from the previous year and a 67% increase from 2001.

Australia's Transport Ministers have outlined a new National Cycling Strategy, which aims to double the number of cyclists by 2016.
The Australian Transport Council of Federal, State and Territory Transport Ministers, which met for the first time since the federal election, endorsed the Australian National Cycling Strategy 2011-16 in Melbourne last week.
The Ministers say they are serious about tackling climate change and traffic congestion as well as encouraging healthier lifestyles in our cities and regional communities.
The data available shows that there were more than 1.9 million people cycling in Australia in 2008, up 21% over just three years.
In addition, bicycles have out-sold cars every year over the last 10 years, with half of all Australian households owning at least one bike. |

Four transport organisations have joined
forces today to urge all political parties to commit to tasking the
Productivity Commission to report on the costs of urban congestion, road
accidents, environmental degradation, climate change and energy security
associated with Australia’s current transport use.
This will be a positive
first step in ensuring that major political parties implement reliable, safe
and sustainable transport systems.
A joint letter was sent by the Australasian
Railway Association (ARA), Bus Industry Confederation (BIC), Cycling Promotion
Fund (CPF) and International Association of Public Transport (UITP), urging the
Productivity Commission to report on the true social costs of transportation
within the Australian context.
