Bicycle Film Festival comes to Melbourne & Sydney!

The Cycling Promotion Fund is a sponsor of the upcoming Melbourne Bicycle Film Festival that will be screening from 5-9 December 2007.

About the BFF: The Bicycle Film Festival celebrates the bicycle. We are into all styles of bikes and biking. If you can name it-Tall Bike Jousting, Track Bikes, BMX, Alleycats, Critical Mass, Bike Polo, Cycling to Recumbents - we've probably either ridden or screened it. What better way to celebrate these lifestyles than through art, film, music and performance?

Federal Government Election Campaign

The Cycling Promotion Fund and Ryde City Council team up to urge the Commonwealth to invest in walking and cycling infrastructure

The Australian cycling sector has joined forces with local government to urge the Commonwealth to invest in healthy,active transport by funding walking and cycling infrastructure.

Developed by the Australian cycling sector and supported by over 60 councils across the country, including the City of Ryde, the proposed Healthy and Active Transport (HEAT) program would deliver $50m of annual funding direct to local government.

Adelaide, Australia - The First Stop in World Cycling - Mutual Community Challenge Tour Jersey Launched

The Tour Down Under today unveiled the new look Mutual Community Challenge Tour jersey. The 2008 jersey design is ochre in colour, celebrating 10 years since the inaugural Tour Down Under in 1999.

Andrew McEvoy, Chief Executive, South Australian Tourism Commission said that the new look ochre Mutual Community Challenge Tour jersey would be popular with riders.

2007 Australian Bicycling Achievement Awards
Making Australia more bicycle friendly requires action, commitment, innovation, vision and persistence. Without the work of dedicated individuals and organisations, many of the facilities and initiatives we take for granted today would not be there.
 
The Cycling Promotion Fund, an initiative of Bicycle Industries Australia Ltd, believes that recognising innovation and commitment is vital in maintaining momentum and sustaining action around Australia. To achieve this we established the Bicycling Achievement Awards in 2002.

Victorian Police and the Bicycle Industry join forces to encourage bicycle riders to light up

Local bicycle riders are being encouraged to fit their bicycles with lights so they can enjoy the mild-weather riding pleasures of spring.

During Safety Month in October, the Victorian Police will provide information to bicycle riders on the range of lights available and the legal requirements and will reward some with free lights to encourage them to keep cycling and to light up when riding early in the morning or later in the day.

On Ya Bike: Pedalling to avoid the pain at the pump

The Australian bicycle sector is calling on federal parties to support a $50 million bicycle infrastructure package and National Ride to School and Ride to Work program. 

"Cycling is a practical, low cost and healthy way for people to reduce their impact on the environment, cut their petrol costs and stay healthy. Federal support is needed to make cycling a real choice for more Australians. "

Bipartisan Backing of Bicycle Boom

On the 9th of August, the Cycling Promotion Fund launched its new document at Parliament House, Canberra; Cycling  >  Moving Australia Forward

The publication will be launched by the Minister for Health and Ageing, The Hon Tony Abbott MP and includes an address by Shadow Minister for Local Government and Health Promotion, Senator Kate Lundy.

NSW Bike Week 2007 - Something for Everyone

Hats off to the NSW Government and the NSW cycling community for their impressive array of events during NSW Bike Week 2007, running between Saturday 22nd and Sunday 30th September. NSW Bike Week is a state-wide government initiative that raises the profile of cycling as a healthy, easy, low cost and environmentally friendly alternative to driving for short trips. It allows people, especially beginners, to participate in organised bicycle events in a safe and supported environment, close to home.
